Image: Weights: Golovkin 159, Proksa 159; Dzinziruk 156.5, Gonzalez 163By Jim Dower: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (23-0, 20 KO’s) made weight on Friday in coming in at 159 pounds for his HBO fight against EBU middleweight champion Grzegorz Proksa (28-1, 21 KO’s0 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York, United States.

Proksa, 27, also came in at 159 lbs for this important fight. Golokin is trying to establish himself as a star in the U.S, and he needs to look not just good but sensation in beating Proksa in this fight.

Golovkin is expected to win this fight but Proksa might make it tough on him if he’s able to stand up to Golovkin’s power somehow.

In the undercard weights:

Former WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-1, 24 KO’s) came in over the 154 pound limit at 156.5 lbs for his fight against unbeaten Jonathan Gonzalez (15-0, 13 KO’s) for their scheduled 10 round bout for the vacant WBC Continental Americas light middleweight title.

Gonzalez, however, came in way over the limit at 163 lbs, a full 9 pounds of the junior middleweight limit. It’s going to be interesting to see how much Gonzalez rehydrates up to by the time he steps inside the ring on Saturday. We could see Gonzalez weighing as much as a cruiserweight on Saturday and that should make things interesting for Dzinziruk to see what he can do against a huge fighter like that.

Dzinzuruk has been inactive for the past year last fighting in March of last year when he was stopped in the 8th round by Sergio Martinez in the 8th round. Dzinziruk hasn’t done himself a lot of favors by staying inactive all this time.
