Image: Rigondeaux getting ready to smash Arum's stable fighter Marroquin on September 15thBy Chris Williams: Bob Arum is sending prospect Robert Marroquin (22-1, 15 KO’s) out to what could be the equivalent of him walking the plank above a hungry shark in the deep ocean against unbeaten WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (10-0, 8 KO’s) on September 15th at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is either a case of tough love by Arum or he’s willing to risk the neck of the 22-year-old Marroquin by throwing him to The Jackel. It see it as a bad Las Vegas type gamble where someone bets everything just hoping that you can win. Marroquin won’t win. The only thing that you bet on is how badly he loses this fight to Rigondeaux. I’m guessing Marroquin will be made to look like hopeless novice in getting quickly taken out inside three rounds.

I’ve seen Marroquin fight on a number of occasions and it seems that he’s just a slugger, and he’s not that good of one either. Arum sees something in him I guess for him to have signed the guy. But Marroquin’s slugging style is going to be perfect for the southpaw Rigondeaux to show his counter punching ability by tagging Marroquin each time he attempts to load up with a big shot. This is going to be like taking Rigondeaux into a big candy store for him to pick out the choicest candy, because the inexperienced Marroquin is going to present all kinds of openings for Rigondeaux to butcher him.

Rigondeaux has knocked out his last three opponents Willie Casey, Rico Ramos and Teon Kennedy. Rigondeaux did struggle to defeat Ricardo Cardoba in November 2010, but that was a rare fight where Rigondeaux had problems. Marroquin is nothing like Cardoba and he’s going to have big problems.
