Ricky Burns and Kevin Mitchell head to head on BoxNation was too tame

by Scott Gilfoid: If you’ve had the chance to watch the Ricky Burns and Kevin Mitchell – Head to head BoxNation video you’ll probably noticed how completely tame it was. It looks kind of like an imitation of HBO’s Face off with Max Kellerman formats except the BoxNation guy doesn’t appear to be trying to cause friction the way that Kellerman typically does.

I was really disappointed because I expected a lot more from the Burns-Mitchell head to head meeting. The guys are trying to promote their September 22nd fight in Glasgow, Scotland, but they pretty did nothing but compliment each other the whole time.

I understood enough of what they were saying to note that they were just saying nice stuff about each other. What a waste of a show. They looked more like good buddies than two fighters that are about to compete. I can’t wait until this fight is over with so that Adrien Broner can move in and scoop up the WBO lightweight title off the winner of this fight.

Burns will probably win if he can tie up Mitchell enough and the referee allows him to do this. As far as actual fighting, I expect Mitchell to be the better of the two. However, Burns is really good at clinching and tying up his opponent’s arms after he throws a shot. It’s hard to watch and frustrating because you want the referee to step in and give some warnings and take points off.

If Burns can tie Mitchell up all night long he’ll probably win the fight. but if the referee steps in and forces Burns to fight, I expect him to get beaten. I don’t see either of these guys are going anywhere once Broner moves in. Burns and Mitchell will lose against the other lightweights and they won’t stand a chance against Broner. It might be domestic level here we come after this fight for these guys.
