Image: Pacquiao to face Marquez on November 10th?By Chris Williams: Fightnews.com is reporting that sources are telling them that 39-year-old WBO light welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) is the one that Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum have picked out for November 10th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Marquez and Pacquiao have reportedly agreed on the fight, but contracts have yet to be signed.

Of the three choices – Tim Bradley, Marquez & Miguel Cotto – that were available for Pacquiao to fight this is perhaps the second best behind Cotto in terms of interest and pay per view potential. Cotto is number #3 as a PPV draw behind Floyd Mayweather and Pacquiao. If the idea was just to make money without the threat that Cotto would bring due to his power and size, Marquez is a good choice. He’s not as dangerous as Cotto, and his focus on counter punching gives Pacquiao a better chance of winning a decision over him than it would be against a bigger, stronger and more aggressive Cotto.

Although many boxing fans had Marquez winning all three fights with Pacquiao in the past, Marquez has had to settle for two losses and a draw. I figure Marquez will lose again if the fight goes to a decision, because it’s really hard to get the nod against Pacquiao, as we’ve seen in the three controversial fights Marquez and Pacquiao have had together.

Marquez brings a large Mexican fan base to the table who will eagerly purchase Arum’s HBO televised PPV bout in high numbers which should guarantee a big buy rate of at least 1 million PPV buys at the minimum. The only way it will dip below those numbers is if boxing fans are sick of seeing these two fighters face each other over and over again with Pacquiao winning controversial decisions each time. There’s a frustration point that could set in for fans who may feel that Marquez can’t win a decision for whatever reason.
