Pacquiao likely to take the weaker of three options for next fight

Image: Pacquiao likely to take the weaker of three options for next fightBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao is widely considered to be facing the weakest of the three options of opponents offered to him by his promoter Bob Arum for his November 10th fight in Las Vegas. Arum has picked out Miguel Cotto, Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez for Pacquiao to choose from for the November date.

Looking at my crystal ball, it’s very possible that Pacquiao could choose the light hitting Bradley over the arguably much tougher choices of Cotto and Marquez for his next fight. By doing this Pacquiao will be making a lot less money than he would be if he choose the tougher options of fighting Cotto or Marquez.

However, Pacquiao’s chances of beating Bradley are a lot better than they are if he were to fight Cotto or Marquez again. Bradley showed in his fight with Pacquiao last June that he doesn’t have any power at welterweight and the only thing that Pacquiao needs to worry about in facing him is getting out-worked and out-boxed like last time. Bradley is still a very tough option for Pacquiao because of his boxing skills, but his lack of power might make him the more appealing option.

If Pacquiao wants to keep winning for a little while longer he might be better off picking Bradley and hoping that the judges ignore the fact that Bradley is landing more shots and working harder in the ring. If the judges mainly focus on what goes on in the last 20 to 30 seconds of every round then Pacquiao could pull off a decision win.
