Image: Oosthuizen still a possibility for FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten South African Thomas Oosthuizen (20-0-1, 13 KO’s) is still a possible next opponent for IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) in November, according to Dan Rafael at ESPN. The only thing that needs to happen for the fight to be salvaged is for Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn to up the offer for the 24-year-old Oosthuizen.

I figured it was the money behind Oosthuizen’s team recently saying that they’ll not be taking the fight with Froch and instead will be looking to fight on Shobox in the United States.

If you want a talent like Oosthuizen, you got to be willing to pay him top dollar, especially when you’re asking him to fly all the way over to the UK to fight Froch in his home arena in Nottingham.

That’s a tough situation to put Oosthuizen in having to fight in front of all those loud Froch fans. You also got the problem where Oosthuizen might have to practically KO Froch to ensure that he doesn’t lose by a questionable decision. When you’re a young talent like Oosthuizen, you can’t afford to have your unblemished ring record messed up by losing a questionable decision. The boxing public won’t know that it was a controversial decision and might get the wrong idea that Oosthuizen was dominated or something.

It would be interesting to know how much money it will take to get Oosthuizen over there to fight Froch. My guess is $400,000 or more. That should do the trick. If Froch really wants to get that fight he needs to pay Oosthuizen the cash that he wants so that this fight can be made. It’s not as if Froch is going to lose anything. He’s going to gain big time if he can win and it would help his legacy if he could beat a talent like Oosthuizen. It may hurt to get a slightly smaller payday but the end result would be a big gain because fans would respect Froch if could beat Oosthuizen. I don’t think he can.
