Image: Oosthuizen a dangerous opponent for FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: #4 IBF Thomas Oosthuizen (20-0-1, 13 KO’s) did his part to stay in contention for a fight with IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) by dominating the hard hitting Rowland Bryant last Thursday night beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Roseland Ballroom, in New York, New York.

The 24-year-old Oosthuizen has already been mentioned as a possible opponent for Froch, although he may be ruled out for Froch after this impressive performance against Bryant. Oosthuizen used his size and reach to dominate one of the hardest punchers in the super middleweight division in the 32-year-old Bryant.

I rate Bryant as a better puncher than Froch and almost as powerful as Adonis Stevenson. It didn’t matter, because Oosthuizen took Bryant’s biggest shots early on in the fight and fired back punch after punch to get the better of Bryant. The fight came down to Oosthuizen’s combination punching and Bryant’s occasional bombs. Unfortunately for Bryant he wasn’t able to land enough of those big bombs to get the decision win.

A fight between Froch and Oosthuizen could be a a real war and I’m not so sure that Froch would come out on top in this fight because Oosthuizen is the much bigger and younger fighter of the two and he hasn’t been in as many wars compared to the 34-year-old Froch.

Oosthuizen did a lot of shoe shining shots against Bryant, getting in close and just working him over with fast combos. Froch isn’t as fast Oosthuizen and he’d have a ton of problems agains thim because of his reach and the way the South African moves around the ring.
