Image: McCrory: I don't want to see Khan get hurt; he's got nothing to prove anymoreBy William Mackay: Sky Sports News boxing analyst Glenn McCrory thinks former two-time light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KO’s) should retire now that he’s been knocked out again. McCrory believes that Khan is taking a great risk by continuing to fight and risk possibly getting badly hurt in one of his important fights against world class opposition.

McCrory said to Sky Sports Ringside “The problems [for Khan] are still there. He does depend on speed, he does let his combinations go quickly, and if he gets caught while he’s letting his punches go, he gets knocked out. And when he gets knocked out, it’s bad. I haven’t called for him to retire in a sense that he’s no good. I’m a big fan of Amir Khan. He’s a young kid. He’s won two world titles, and he’s coming back. He’s done fantastically well. Where is there to go? Yes, he’s 25, but people get badly injured and put in comas and all the rest of it at 25 as well. So age has nothing to do with how old he is. It’s what happens when he gets hurt. I don’t want to see him get hurt. He’s going to fight in big fights. He’s not going to come down to British or Commonwealth level. People are going to demand to see him with the best, and with the best there’s always the chance he gets hurt.”

I agree with McCrory. The chances are way too high that Khan will get hurt badly in the near future if he keeps fighting. He’s not going to start facing weak opposition because the pressure will be too much for him to fight the best guys. Besides that, Khan sees himself as being in the same class as guys like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and he won’t be able to accept facing weaker opposition. And if you put Khan in with the best light welterweights like Danny Garcia, Mike Alvarado and Lucas Matthysse, to name just a few, the chances are going to be extremely high that Khan will get knocked out again.
