Image: Mayweather: Pacquiao is a beautiful fighter, I hope to fight him in the futureBy Chris Williams: In a sign that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) is eager to get Filipino Manny Pacquiao in the ring as soon as possible, Mayweather said this about Pacquiao as quoted by Sports Illustrated “I think Pacquiao’s an unbelievable fighter, and hopefully we can make the fight happen in the future.”

I wonder if Mayweather is worried about Pacquiao suffering another loss in his upcoming fight in November, which would pretty much take a lot of the air out of a future Mayweather-Pacquiao mega fight. Mayweather might still fight Pacquiao even if he loses his next bout, but the money would likely be way, way down from what it would have been had the two fighters been able to reach an agreement for a mega fight in 2010 when they first started talking about fighting. A lot of the interest in this fight has died off, but there’s still a significant amount. Pacquiao losing to Tim Bradley last June didn’t help things, though, and another loss for Pacquiao this November against Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez or Miguel Cotto, will really hurt a future Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

Mayweather needs to say the right things to get Pacquiao in the ring. It’s about Mayweather getting that money will it’s still available. If Pacquiao is smart, he should tell Arum to forget about the November fight because all the guys that Arum wants to match Pacquiao with are too risky at this point in his career for him to be fighting.

Pacquiao may have two wins over Marquez and another win over Cotto, but that doesn’t mean anything. Cotto has gotten better, and Pacquiao seems to be going downhill. And Pacquiao’s wins over Marquez were all controversial, and the chances are high that Marquez will finally get the nod from the judges if he can get Pacquiao in the ring in November.
