Image: Marquez may get passed up by PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: WBO light welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) will have to decide what he wants to do if Manny Pacquiao opts to fight someone else in November rather than choosing to face him for a fourth time.

A fight between Pacquiao and Marquez is the logical fight for the Filipino to make, because the money that he’ll get for that fight will clearly far surpass the kind of cash that he’ll get in a rematch against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley.

Pacquiao has beaten Marquez in two out of the three fights they’ve had between them with the 1st fight ending in a controversial 12 round draw. However, a lot of boxing fans think that Marquez got jobbed in all three fights. It’s hard for me to see those fights and not believe that Marquez deserved to win all three, but then again I’m not the judges that gave Pacquiao two of those wins as well scoring their first fight a draw. But fans definitely prefer to see a fourth fight between Marquez and Pacquiao over a rematch between Pacquiao and Bradley. But that’s what it looks like Pacquiao will do – take the rematch against the light hitting Bradley rather than taking a risky fourth fight against Marquez.

Marquez will be turning 39 on August 23rd, and if he can’t get the fight against Pacquiao this year, the chances of him aging to the point where he’s more beatable will increase. Of course, the 33-year-old Pacquiao is aging too and we could see him as the older fighter in terms of his physical tools of he decides to wait on fighting Marquez next year.

Marquez will have to stay busy and defend his World Boxing Organization 140 pound title if he can’t get the rematch against Pacquiao. Marquez can defend the title against number 2 WBO Ruslan Provodnikov while he waits until next year for another fight against Pacquiao. Provodnikov is a beatable slugger and not someone that Marquez would have to worry about too much.
