If Golden Boy is truly interested in making Broner a fighter that could be the next Floyd Mayweather Jr, then they’re going to have to challenge him by putting him in with the best fighters at light welterweight and welterweight. Mayweather was already fighting top fighters by the time he was 23, and he wasn’t wasting his time against guys that no one cared about like Broner has been doing lately.

Broner has already shown that he’s a welterweight in weight in his last fight in beating Vicente Escobedo while weighing 146 lbs, so he’s ready to at least move up to light welterweight division if not the welterweight division to start seeking out important fights that can help make him a star.

I’d like to see Broner fighting some of these guys in the next year:

Danny Garcia
Lucas Matthysse
Mike Alvarado
Lamont Peterson
Zab Judah
Amir Khan
Ajose Olusegun
Victor Ortiz
Mike Jones
Randall Bailey
Devon Alexander
Paulie Malignaggi
Manny Pacquiao
Kell Brook
Jessie Vargas
Josesito Lopez
Robert Guerrero

Anyone of those guys would be perfect for Broner right now to prove to boxing fans that he’s for real. He’s not going to be able to prove anything fighting at lightweight where he’ll likely have big problems trying to get the top fighters to take him on.

Since he’s not going to have fighters volunteering to take him on, Broner is going to have to be open to moving up in weight to light welterweight and welterweight in order to get the biggest fights possible. Broner matched up well with guys like Guerrero, Brook and Ortiz at welterweight. I can see him knocking all three of them out.
