If you think Chavez Jr. took a beating in his fights against Sebastian Zbik, just wait until you see what Martinez is going to do to him.

It’s likely going to be brutal for the slow-footed Chavez Jr. He’s not really faced a puncher yet and Martinez is what you would consider an upper echelon slugger with hand speed and a southpaw fighting style that makes him very hard to beat. Martinez has already promised to knock some of Chavez Jr’s teeth out in the process of beating him on September 15th. Chavez Jr. obviously didn’t think too highly of Martinez’s threat but he should, because Martinez has hurt some of his opponents.

He knocked Paul Williams out cold and tore former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik’s face to bits, leaving his face a mask of blood by the end of the fight. Praise Chavez Jr. all you want for his wins over Andy Lee and Marco Antonio Rubio, but he doesn’t have the kind of power that Martinez has going for him. Chavez Jr. is just a big 180 pound body puncher who is lucky that the WBC still isn’t using rehydration limits, because if he they were Chavez Jr simply couldn’t make the weight and would have to move up to super middleweight to try his luck.

I’m just wondering how bad Chavez Jr. is going to look by the end of the fight against Martinez. I think he’s going to get beaten black and blue by Martinez. I don’t know who’s going to win because I can’t see the future, but I do know that Chavez Jr. is going to take some terrible punishment in this fight and he’s going to have to show an incredible chin for him to win. Since he’s so much slower than the guys that Martinez has been fighting recently, Chavez Jr. is going to get hit an awful lot because he’ll be an easy mark for Martinez.
