Chavez Jr. makes 30-day weigh-in for Martinez fight
By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32 KO’s) successfully made the 30-day weigh-in for his September 15th fight against Sergio Martinez today by weighing in right at the limit of 176 pounds. For his part, Martinez came in a little lighter at 174 lbs, according to World Boxing Council News.
Chavez Jr. and Martinez both could be no more than 10 percent of the contracted weight of 160 lbs. In other words, Chavez Jr barely made it by coming in 16 pounds over the 160 pound limit. However, in photos of Chavez Jr taken, he looked weight drained like he had to cut weight just to make the 176 pound limit.
His faced looked sunken and he looked exhausted. It’s unclear whether Chavez Jr. has to strip off 10 or more pounds just to make the 30-day weigh-in limit of if this was just a bad day for him. Whatever the case, Chavez Jr. didn’t look good with dark circles under both eyes and looking like he’d not slept.
Hopefully, Chavez Jr didn’t have to dehydrate himself just to make the 176 lb limit because he sure didn’t look good today. Compared to recent training video of a slightly bloated Chavez Jr working out on ESPN, Chavez Jr. looked a lot thinner but not healthy looking.
