Image: Charr has the power; Vitali has the reachBy Jason Kim: #7 WBC Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s) will have a slight power advantage when he enters the ring against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) on September 8th at the Olimpiyskiy, in Moscow, Russia. Charr’s power advantage could be negated by the 6’7″ Vitali’s height advantage over the 6’3 1/2″ Charr.

Vitali’s taller guy but he’s not that much taller, and his arms aren’t that much longer as well. Charr could very well walk through Vitali’s attempts at keeping him at bay with his jab and get in close to pound Vitali to the midsection and head the way that Derek Chisora did last February.

Vitali looked really bothered by Chisora’s body shots, which seemed to deplete the 41-year-old Ukrainian’s energy reserves rapidly following the 5th round. Chisora could have helped himself even further if he had let his hands go with more regularity but it looked like he stamina problems himself that kept him from letting his hands go enough.

The beauty of Charr’s game is that he doesn’t tire out and he’s got a good punch. I guess it’s his youth that enables him to throw shots round after round without fading like other heavyweights do. Charr is only 27, and that’s considerably younger than the 41-year-old Vitali.

Vitali has never responded well when getting hit back. He normally doesn’t get hit all that often due to his huge size, but when he does take punishment he looks bad, his skin swells up, and he cuts easily. In his fight with Chris Byrd in 2000, Vitali quick shortly after Byrd started to take command of the fight. The German crowd turned on Vitali and started cheering for the underdog Byrd. The next thing you know if Vitali quit. It took a lot of years for Vitali to shake the quitter label that many boxing fans and writers and stuck on him. But those fights proved that Vitali is a different fighter when he starts taking punishment on a consistent basis.

If Charr takes the fight to Vitali we could see him fall apart like an old car.
