Image: Carl Froch, no easy fightsBy Steven Ocallaghan: If any of the current world champions deserve an easier opponent, surely it’s the IBF super middleweight champion “Cobra” Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s). On November 17th, Froch takes on Yusaf Mack in his first title defence.

Mack isn’t at the same level as Foch’s last eight opponents. Lucian Bute, Andre Ward, Glen Johnson, Arthur Abraham, Mikkel Kessler, Andre Dirrell, Jermain Tayler and Jean Pascal, but nevertheless he is still a dangerous opponent.

Similar height and reach and a heavy puncher, Mack, in winning his last 2 fights has got himself a 6 ranking by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in the light heavyweight division and earned himself a shot at Froch.

If you look at Mack’s record, one judge had him winning against Tavoris Cloud, but he also had some sore losses to previous Carl Froch opponent in Glen Johnson, Librado Andrade who in my eyes got robbed in the last round of their first fight against Bute and Alejandro Berrio, also a Bute opponent. Berrio earned the Bute fight with a 3rd round TKO over recent title challenger Robert Stieglitz.

Mack is a capable fighter but a fight I expect him to lose. Carl Froch has fought the best over the last 5 years and knows himself there is not long left.

Eddie Hearn who promotes Froch has got to be commended because he always got the fights the fans wanted, even though Mack isn’t a household name he is still dangerous.

Froch wants another couple of fights after after Mack. Two rematches, again ducking no one.
