Brook: A fight between me and Khan will happen

Image: Brook: A fight between me and Khan will happenBy William Mackay: Unbeaten welterweight contender (28-0, 18 KO’s) hasn’t given up on the idea of him facing Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KO’s) at some point in the not so distant future despite Khan having now lost his last two fights.

You’d think that Brook, 26, would have lost all interest in a fight with Khan now that he’s getting beaten repeatedly, but Brook still wants the fight once Khan gets his act together and rebuilds his career, if that’s possible.

Brook said to Sky Sports News “I think with me and Amir Khan down the line it can happen> I think all the fans want the fight to happen, I want the fight to happen, it’s down to him. I think he might need to rebuild a bit on his career after getting knocked out by [Danny] Garcia, but time will tell.”

Brook thinks Khan needs to rebuild his career? Of course he does, and it would be crazy for Khan to accept a fight with Brook right now after those two losses. However, I don’t see Khan ever accepting a fight against Brook unless Khan’s career seriously tanked, leaving him in a situation where he really needs Brook in order to get a big fight. It would still be a good domestic level fight even if Khan starts getting beaten by other fighters on the world stage. You can always sell a Brook vs. Khan fight in the UK no matter how badly Khan struggles in his fights against quality opposition.

Brook needs to worry about his own career first, though, because he was almost beaten in his last fight against Carson Jones last month, squeaking by with a 12 round majority decision.

Brook has a fight coming up on October 20th against Hector David Saldivia (41-2, 32 KO’s) at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The fight is an IBF welterweight eliminator bout.
