Image: Broner's fight against Escobedo draws high ratings on HBO's Boxing After DarkBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten lightweight contender Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) is quickly on his way to becoming a major star on HBO, and his good ratings for his recent win over Vicente Escobedo seems to prove that he’ll soon be a huge pay per view star if he can keep winning a little while longer.

Yahoo Sports News writer Kevin Iole is reporting that Broner’s fight against Escobedo brought in a 3.4 rating and had 1.4 million viewers. That makes the Broner-Escobedo fight the number #1 Boxing After Dark [BAD] telecast on HBO for 2012.

That’s not bad for a fighter that recently just turned 23 in Broner.

This tells you that Broner is well on his way to becoming the future PPV star in the United States real soon, and will likely be the guy that takes over for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao when they retire from the sport in the not too distant future. Those two fighters are already showing serious signs of wear in their last few fights, and it’s hard to see them being able to continue on like they did before/ Things are going to slow down with them even more, and that’s where Broner will be able to capitalize by being the guy that impresses each time out.

Broner made easy work of Escobedo, pounding him badly in the 5th round resulting in Escobedo’s corner throwing in the towel to save him from really getting punished. Escobedo fought the best that he could but didn’t have the power or the talent to compete with Broner. It was a good try by Escobedo, but Broner’s shots were precise and he was able to hurt Escobedo with his power on his shots.

You can expect for Broner’s ratings to keep climbing in the future with every bout until he’s got numbers similar to Mayweather and Pacquiao whenever he fights.
