Broner can do better than DeMarco for his next fight

Image: Broner can do better than DeMarco for his next fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten former WBO super featherweight Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) has already called out WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (27-2-1, 20 KO’s) for his next fight, but that’s not much of a fight if you ask me. Broner is aiming too low if he wants to fight DeMarco, because this guy was already exposed badly by Edwin Valero two years ago in a 9th round stoppage and he’s done nothing much since then other than beating a fragile-chinned Jorge Linares.

Broner isn’t going to get a fight against DeMarco anyway for his next fight because DeMarco is facing John Molina next month on September 8th on the undercard of Chad Dawson vs. Andre Ward at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California and there’s no way on earth that DeMarco is going to be able to be back in the ring four weeks later for a hard fight against Broner. That’s not happening.

Maybe if this was the old days a beat up DeMarco would be back in the ring to fight a talent like Broner, but not now. Broner needs to forget that unless he wants to just sit around and do nothing for five or six months while DeMarco licks his wounds from his fight against Molina. But that’d be a waste for a talent like Broner. He’s got to stay busy and look to fight some of the other lightweights or preferably some of the light welterweights.

Broner can’t fight WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns yet, because he has a fight scheduled next month against Kevin Mitchell in Scotland. Burns won’t be available to fight Broner for a long time, and even then I don’t see Burns being eager to step inside the ring with a puncher like Broner in his fight after the Mitchell bout.

Here’s the guys that Broner needs to target for October:

Amir Khan
Humberto Soto
Miguel Vazquez
Richard Abril
Brandon Rios
Juan Manuel Marquez
Jorge Linares
