Bold Prediction: Manny’s next opponent already picked

By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: Top Rank CEO is heading to the Philippines to discuss Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent. However, I will boldly go out on the limb and say that the opponent is already selected. It’s Juan Manuel Marquez. A couple reasons. For the most obvious reason its an in house fight.

Arum controls both fighters and he doesn’t have to share the money with another promoter. Second, outside the Floyd Mayweather fight, it’s the only fight that makes sense financially. The Pac/Bradley fight did poorly on pay per view sales and no one is willing to pay to that fight; at least not right now anyway.

The interest for a fourth Pac/Marquez fight may not be as juicy as the last three because of the controversy surrounding the past three fights (with the third being the most controversial).

Arum stated last month upon the formation of The Money Team Promotions that a fight with Mayweather can possibly be made because Golden Boy would not be involved. In my opinion, that’s just a gaffe thrown out to keep the public happy. Arum has no interest in making the fight happen.

I can say this with confidence because it was Arum who said he was protecting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. from Sergio Martinez. With that being said, I believe he’s doing the same thing with Pac. Miguel Cotto has been mentioned as a potential opponent for Pacquiao. That’s not even going to happen. Cotto is not on Top Rank and Cotto fights at 154. Pacquiao’s contract is up in 2014 with Top Rank so I will make another bold prediction.

Pacquiao will fight Marquez in November of this year, and rematch Tim Bradley in May of 2013, and complete the trilogy in November of that same year. After that Pacquiao is a free agent. I could be wrong about these predictions and will own up to them if I’m wrong.
