Image: Bellew may crumble when he tastes Miranda's powerBy Scott Gilfoid: In looking at British light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew’s fight coming up next month against the powerful Colombian Edison Miranda (35-7, 30 KO’s in their non-title bout on September 8th, I think we have the makings for an upset with Miranda perhaps knocking Bellew out in fornt of his British fans at the Alexandria Palace, Muswell Hill, in London, England.

In my painstaking research into the last half dozen fights of Miranda and Bellew, I’ve noticed that Miranda is fighting on a higher level the the 6’2″ fringe contender Bellew. I mean, Bellew has only suffered one loss during that time but he’s also not faced anyone that I consider good. He fought the WBO paper champion Nathan Cleverly and was beaten by him. And if you can’t beat a paper champion that kind of tells you all you need to know about Bellew.

Apart from his 3rd round wipe out loss to Lucian Bute in April 2010, Miranda has looked pretty sharp in fights against Rayco Saunders, Yordanis Despaigne, Kariz Kariuki and Isaac Chilemba. I thought Miranda fought well enough to win all those fights.

The thing is with Bellew, he’s a good front runner. He does good when he’s got a fight that’s fighting scared or who doesn’t have the talent to compete with him. But when you take the fight to Bellew, he’s a much different fighter and almost timid. He goes from being a slugger to that of a runner when he’s faced with someone that comes at him.

Miranda has got the power to put Bellew on his bicycle big time. If Bellew tries to fight Miranda like he did his last opponent Danny McIntosh, Bellew will get blasted out. There are levels here. Bellew, 29, is a fringe level contender whereas Miranda is a more talented guy that deserves to be ranked around #7 or so. Miranda will chew Bellew up and spit him out if Bellew tries to go right at him like he did McIntosh. Bellew is made to order for Miranda.
