Audley or Fraudley?

Image: Audley or Fraudley?By Steven Ocallaghan: There are many opinions on Audley Harrison, a big strong heavyweight who after winning gold at the 2000 Olympics looked to have the world in his hands.

The talk from at that time “A Force” was that sooner rather than later a world title would be his. A number of the usual set up fights were made to get him the experience required to make the move from amateur to pro but it seamed to go more to his head, the fact he was beating guys that were mere notches apposed to contenders.

Then came the losses. Guys like Danny Williams and Dominic Guinn, now Williams in his day was a good fighter but the “next world champ” should have taken care of guys at that level.

A few more wins then 3rd round KO from Michael Sprott set him back again. The loss to Martin Rogan was always going to be tough to come back from, even though he only lost by 1 round.

Since losing to Rogan, Harrison went on to win Prizefighter, stopping 2 of the 3 opponents he faced. The real problem for me is the second Sprott fight and the David Haye fight. Harrison beat Sprott after putting out his shoulder in the first round, remember he knocked Sprott out clean in the 12th and then the farce of the Haye fight. Not David’s fault.

It’s taken two years to come up with a pectoral problem but Harrison told us straight after the Sprott fight in the after fight interview about his shoulder. Now if your fighting for the world heavyweight title you put everything into it or don’t take the fight in the first place.

We’ve seen and heard it all before from Audley, but this time is maybe just one time too much.
