Arum risking another loss for Pacquiao by having him fight on November 10th

Image: Arum risking another loss for Pacquiao by having him fight on November 10thBy Chris Williams: Bob Arum is really taking a huge risk with his aging money fighter Manny Pacquiao by having him take the November 10th fight date in Las Vegas against one of three opponents that Arum has chosen for the Filipino to pick from for the date. Instead of letting Pacquiao rest up and wait for a big, big fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in early 2013, Arum is going to have Pacquiao fight again before the end of the year.

It’s a serious risk for Pacquiao because he’s shown in his last two fights against Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley that his game is really starting to deteriorate badly. He may not be able to get past his next fight without taking another loss like the one he suffered against Bradley last June. Arum needs to wise up and realize that it would be better to not take any risks with his aging cash cow in order to get the big money against Floyd Mayweather Jr. while there’s still a chance to get it. Arum is going to blow it for Pacquiao by putting him in with one of these three guys – Miguel Cotto, Bradley or Marquez – and we’ll likely see Pacquiao get beaten up or out-boxed.

Pacquiao really needs to speak up and tell Arum that he doesn’t want to take the November fight date, because it’s too risky. Arum really should see this himself that he’s got someone that can’t do the ambitious things that he wants him to anymore. I hate to say it but Pacquiao isn’t the fighter that was beating guys left and right in the past. All those fights that Arum put him in has slowly worn Pacquiao down to where he’s now winning controversial decisions over Marquez and losing to guys like Bradley.

Pacquiao has too much mileage on him now for him to take a risky fight that could totally mess up a fight against Mayweather. Pacquiao should stand up and tell Arum to forget it. If he wants to match someone against Cotto, Bradley or Marquez, Arum needs to pick out one of his Top Rank stable fighters like Mercito Gesta and throw him in with one of them. I wish Gesta a lot of luck, because he would definitely need it.

Pacquiao needs lots of rest and recreation to get ready for Mayweather. Chances are if Pacquiao takes the November 10th fight date that Arum wants him to, he’s either going to lose the fight or take a terrible beating to where it’ll likely get in the way of him fighting Mayweather until at least June of next year. It took Pacquiao ages to heal up from the cut he suffered in his “Win” over Marquez last November. I can see the same thing happening in his next fight. Pacquiao has a lot of scar tissue around his eyes and all it takes is one good punch in the perfect spot and he’ll be bleeding like a stuck pig, and will need tons of time to heal up.
