A healthy Bradley will be a problem for Pacquiao

Image: A healthy Bradley will be a problem for PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Should Manny Pacquiao opt to face WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley in a rematch on November 10th this year, Pacquiao might end up being very sorry and wished he hadn’t. Bradley, sporting two bad ankles, was able to out-box Pacquiao last June in a 12 round split decision.

The injuries for Bradley were some freak thing that just happened in the fight, but probably won’t ever happen again in the remainder of his career. The thing is Bradley was prevented from moving as well as he usually does because of the injuries that forced him to fight in a more flat-footed, stationary way than he usually does. In the rematch, if there is one in November, Bradley will have two healthy feet and angles and he’ll be a a big problem for the slower Pacquiao because of his movement.

We saw pretty clearly that Bradley was able to box circles around Pacquiao despite the injuries. Pacquiao looked slow and could only fight hard in the last seconds of every round. Bradley commented on this after the fight, saying that once he realized that Pacquiao could only put out any effort in the last part of the round, he was easy to avoid during these portions of the round. Bradley said that in a rematch it would be much easier because he understands the pattern that Pacquiao likes to fight.

Pacquiao has a choice to face Bradley again this November 10th or fight rematches against Miguel Cotto or Juan Manuel Marquez. Bradley by far is the better mover of the three fighters, and he could give Pacquiao a ton of problems if he’s brave enough to get in the ring with him one more time.

It’s pretty clear watching Pacquiao that he can longer cut off a ring, he can’t slip a jab and he can’t handle movement of any kind. He’s easy to hit and he can no longer move around the ring like he once did earlier in his career. If you put a healthy Bradley in there with Pacquiao things could go very wrong immediately with Pacquiao getting out-boxed by the quicker-footed Bradley and unable to catch up to him due to his advanced age.
