This could turn out to be an exciting fight if Wladimir decides to let his hands go for a change rather than looking to clinch all night long like he usually does.

Thompson has already lost to Wladimir in the past four years ago, and he already knows what works and what doesn’t work against the tall 6’6″ Ukrainian giant. Thompson can’t let Wladimir land his right hands or his jabs, because he’ll wear you down if he’s able to land his big shots throughout the fight. Thompson needs to keep Wladimir off of him, meaning he can’t let Wladimir clinch after every shot he throws. Wladimir often just clinches for the sake of clinching, and when he does this he tends to lean all of his weight on his opponents.

Thompson was worn out last time by Wladimir doing this, so he’s got to come up with a strategy to use to prevent that from happening a second time. You can’t just fall to the canvas to keep from holding Wladimir up, because Wladimir sometimes lands on top of his opponents when they collapse in a clinch, and there’s a danger there that Thompson can injure one of his body parts by having Wladimir land on him in this manner.

Thompson says he’s going to take the fight to Wladimir in order to wear him down and get a stoppage. It’s as if he realizes that he doesn’t have the much of a chance of winning a decision in this fight, so he’s going to look to blast the Ukrainian out so that he doesn’t risk losing a controversial decision.
