What next for Fury?

By Dan Henderson: Tyson Fury extended his unbeaten run to 19-0 with 14 KO’s after pounding American Vinny Maddalone for five rounds at the Clevedon Arena, Somerset. It was an easy fight for Fury as Maddalone offered little in terms of offense nor defense, it was just some guy not very many people had heard of and not very skilled getting punched repeatedly for five rounds, it reminded of the first Rocky film where Rocky beats on a dead cow it was a pointless fight against a guy not even ranked inside the top 100 by Boxrec.

I don’t want to be biased against Tyson Fury so I’ll will find the positives starting with his physical condition. He weighed in at a joint career low but had got rid of the excess fat from around the midsection which was a good thing to see also his movement around the ring was also better I thought as he didn’t look as clumsy as he sometimes does. I’m not sure if its down to his condition or his new trainer or even the lack of class in his opponent but he was throwing a lot more combinations which was also good to see. All in all it was a good performance against a bum if I’m being brutally honest but he can only beat what is put in front of him.

What is next for Fury? I think he will fight some more b-level opponents because his promoters will struggle to bring decent fighters to fight on Channel 5 so expect a Audley Harrison type opponent. What I think Fury needs is an opponent like Adamek or Eddie Chambers, someone who is a bit of a name and even going over to the states and fighting on the undercard of a big fight.

I know this article seems a bit harsh but I can say what I feel is right. I do like Tyson Fury but he is being managed very badly because you look at former opponent Derek ‘Del Boy’ Chisora who has fought for a world title and is now in a big money fight against David Haye since he faced Fury.
