What next for Freddie Roach?

Image: What next for Freddie Roach?By Nathan Haworth: Unquestionably Freddie Roach is one of the greatest trainers of all time; but what’s next for him. Yes he has three incredible fighters within his gym (Manny Pacquiao; possibly one of the greatest fighters to ever grace the earth, Amir Khan; a rising star with all the potential to be inducted in to the boxing hall of fame, and the same with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr) but with only one win out of his last three fights, where does he go from here.

The once flawless trainer, with his impeccable strategies actually seems jaded and doesn’t really have a game plan anymore; he never seems to blame him self for a fighter losing; he never says I got this one wrong, but instead “we were unlucky tonight” “the tactics didn’t quite go to plan” “in my eyes my fighter won”. Me personally, I think the trainer has to take some blame too.

Freddie Roach was a fantastic trainer; but is he still a fantastic trainer, well from his last three fights this would be a no, even down to the last Pacquiao Vs. Marquez; Pacquiao didn’t win this fight, so realistically you could say four out of the last five for Freddie’s WildCard Gym have been lost (PacMan/Marquez; Khan/Peterson; PacMan/Bradley; Khan/Garcia)

Tonight Amir Khan lost to Danny Swift Garcia in another dramatic KO similar to the Prescott one, fair enough Amir was young and fairly inexperienced, but now with more ring time and a lot more minutes under his belt this shouldn’t be happening; Amir and Freddie seem to have something to prove with his glass chin, Freddie just face it Amir doesn’t have a good chin; this has been proven on numerous occasions. The way Freddie approached this fight was totally wrong; he wanted Amir to throw a flurry of punches then move out, this didn’t work because as proven tonight Garcia is an incredible counter puncher with heaps of power; Garcia certainly wasn’t the rite kind of fighter for Khan. Even now with that awful performance from Amir, his people have taken to Twitter saying; and I quote “@SpecialKBrook our boy @AmirKingKhan would spark you out!” from tonight’s performance; highly unlikely.

My opinion, it’s time to call it a day for Freddie Roach, before he tarnishes his incredible career any further. Oh yea, and if Freddie thinks he can train Pacquiao for a fight against Mayweather in December then he really has gone in the head.

All the best Freddie, but I suggest hanging up your whistle.
