Martinez wants to smash the huge cruiserweight-sized Chavez Jr. and take his belt in front of what will likely be a large pay-per-view audience on HBO.

Martinez said this at the Los Angeles press conference with Chavez Jr: “I’ll give you a real beating Chavez Jr. I’m the best pound for pound and the belt belongs to me. September 15th will be mine. No more arguments with problems. Now we are here at last on September 15, and I will strip the feathers off the son of Julio Cesar.”

When Chavez Jr. and Martinez came face to face the size differences between them substantial. Chavez Jr. looked to be at least 30 pounds heavier than Martinez, and much taller by at least three inches. Martinez is listed at 5’10”, while Chavez Jr. is supposed to be 6’0″, but Chavez Jr. looked several inches taller.

If I was to guess Chavez Jr’s weight I’d say it was approximately 195 lbs. He’s much heavier than Martinez, who seemed to be in fighting shape already appearing no bigger than 160 at the most. The thing about Chavez Jr. is he doesn’t look out of shape, so I’m not sure where all that weight is going to go. I can’t see him losing it because it looks like he’s all muscle in the 190 region.

All I can think of is he’s going to dehydrate down to make 160 for the weigh-in on September 15th and then rehydrate up to over 180+ for the fight. Being that large, I don’t know if Martinez can deal with someone that much bigger than him. Martinez will be lucky if he rehydrates to 164 at the most, and fighting someone over 180 will be really difficult. It’s too bad boxing doesn’t have rehydration limits so that we don’t have boxers that weigh so much more than the weight division facing guys that are perfect for their weight class like Martinez.
