Scott Harrison looks good enough to beat Burns and Mitchell right now

Image: Scott Harrison looks good enough to beat Burns and Mitchell right nowBy Scott Gilfoid: I have to say I was very impressed with the performance by former WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison (26-2-2, 15 KO’s) in him beating Gyrogy Mizsei Jr. by a 4th round TKO last Friday night in Glascow.

I expected the 34-year-old Harrison to look rusty and shot from having been out of the ring for seven years, but that guy look damn impressive, especially with his body punching. He put Mizsei Jr. down four times in the fight and three with body shots.

Based on that performance, I could see Harrison beating both WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns AND Kevin Mitchell on the same night. Harrison looks to be a level above both fighters. He’s a lot more polished and doesn’t have to resort the tricks those fighters use, such as running or clinching to try and win fights.

Burns wouldn’t be able to clinch or hold onto Harrison’s arms all night long like he did in his last fight, because Harrison would blast him out with body shots. You can’t clinch your way to a win over Harrison cause the guy keeps punching to the body while he’s being held.

Burns would have to come up with some amateur wrestling if he wanted to try and shut down Harrison’s body punching by holding him. I don’t think it’s possible. And Mitchell wouldn’t be able to run around the ring and fight with his usual hit and run style. That wouldn’t work because Harrison cut off the ring and chop Mitchell down with body shots. It’s scary how good Harrison looks. I wonder how long it’ll take before he gets a shot at Burns? I hope Burns doesn’t try and avoid him because that would be a huge fight.

Harrison told the BBC Sport “Hopefully I’ll get a chance for a world title in the near future…In the past I was training to lose weight, but not I’m improving my fitness and strength. As the fight went on I was punching harder.”

He was punching really hard and it reminded me of watching Micky Ward fight.
