However, after Alvarez blows away Lopez, who was picked out for him by his good intentioned promoters at Golden Boy Promotions, Alvarez would like to get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. That’s the fight that Alvarez badly wants and is hoping can happen as soon as possible.

Alvarez told RingTV “That’s the fight that I want. Why? Because he’s the best pound-for-pound in the world, and he’s presently fighting in my division. That’s the real fight that drives me, and that’s the fight that makes me think a lot. So that’s the fight I really, really want.”

Normally, I would think that the chances of a Mayweather-Alvarez fight happening are very high. However, after watching Mayweather Jr. struggle against Miguel Cotto recently, and get bloodied by him, I don’t know if Mayweather Jr will take that fight with Alvarez. Mayweather Jr. isn’t as strong as Alvarez is, and he’s not a natural junior middleweight like him.

Mayweather is starting to lose his quickness, and he’s already lose his ability to move around the ring. That’s why he’s walking around instead of running like he did earlier in his career. Without the same kind of power that Alvarez has it will be very tough on Mayweather to try and beat a younger, bigger fighter like Alvarez I see Mayweather Jr. struggling in that fight, and I think he knows he’d have problems. I seriously doubt Mayweather will ever accept a fight against Canelo unless he shows some kind of weakness in the Lopez fight that gives Mayweather a feeling that he can beat him. Mayweather is a business man, and he’s not going to take a fight that he doesn’t feel like he could win. I don’t know if he could win it, but I do think it would be a lot tougher than his fight against Cotto.
