This is another stay busy fight for Salido, his second in his last three fights.

However, once he blows though the 33-year-old Gutierrez with no problems, Salido could be facing his #1 WBO contender Mikey Garcia later on in the year, possibly on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s next important fight in November.

Salido last fought in March, defeating former WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez by a 10th round TKO in San Juan, Puerto Rico. That was the second time that Salido knocked Lopez out, and it was very impressive performance from him.

The win showed that Salido’s previous victory over Lopez from last year was no fluke thing. With the two victories over Lopez, Salido has suddenly turned his career around and is heading for stardom after having been a high level contender for many years in the sport.

In the last couple of years, Salido has losses to Yuriorkis Gamboa and Cristobal Cruz. Salido would tear Cruz apart right now, although Gamboa would still likely have Salido’s number. If Salido can defeat Mikey Garcia, it could lead to some other big fights. But Salido will need some of the super bantamweights like Abner Mares, Nonito Donaire and Guillermo Rigondeaux to move up in weight one division for him to get some of the really big fights. At super featherweight, there really isn’t anyone worth fighting now that former WBO champion Adrien Broner has moved up to lightweight.
