This time the former IBF and World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champ has taken a pop at IBF Super middleweight champion Carl Froch by saying that he is a bigger name than Froch.

Perhaps he is right, Khan does have a bigger name than Froch. When your promotional company is Golden Boy and you abandon your home fans to fight in Vegas all the time then sure, you will have a bigger name.

Khan also said that he has fought the better opponents than Froch.
How can we take this guy seriously? I had respect for Amir before this weekend but how can he think he has fought better opponents? Let’s take a look.

Khan has fought a way-past-his-prime Marco Antonio Barrera who in his prime would have beaten Khan so convincingly he probably wouldn’t have fought again.

Khan has also fought Zab Juddah, another former great. Paul McCloskey, a ‘B’ level opponent at best. A weight drained Paulie Malignaggi, who is now WBA welterweight champion. Khan got beaten by Lamont Peterson, another ‘B’ level fighter at best. Khan got beaten by Breidis Prescott in one round, Prescott is a ‘D’ level opponent at best. Now Khan has been knocked out by Danny Garcia, who has only one real notable victory under his belt against Erik Morales. Khan has a massive ego, too big if you ask me, if you talk big then you have to be able to back it up. He hasn’t, ever.
Khan talked of fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. after Garcia. Mayweather would have had the easiest payday of his career.

Now let’s look at Carl Froch. His last 8 fights have been world title fights. That in itself is more impressive than Khan’s whole career. Froch fought the best in Andre Ward, Lucian Bute, Jermaine Taylor, Andre Dirrel, Mikkael Kessler and although beaten by Ward and Kessler he wants avenge those defeats.

Khan is a hype man. Nothing more, he has speed, yes, but no boxing brain to fight at the top level.

Froch says that if he was Khan, he would retire. I agree. Where does Khan go now, other than whimpering back to the UK to fight a journeyman, hyping himself up again to be beaten at 140 or 147 pounds. Maybe one big pay day against Kell Brook, who has a chain, and leave the sport with another loss.

Froch may not be headlining Vegas but at least his promoter Eddie Hearn sticks by him, unlike Oscar DeLa Hoya, all over Khan at the start of the fight then bouncing around with Garcia in the end.
Froch may not have a name like Khan does but at least Froch backs up what he says. Froch is on another planet to Khan in terms of achievements, opponents and the most important thing, talent.

Froch will fight in front of his adoring home crowd again in Nottingham in November. Khan will only come back to the UK to bounce back against lesser opponents, Khan has a lot to learn, one thing is always know your place. Especially when talking about the best British boxer around.
