Image: Khan: I don't think Ricky Hatton wants to fight meBy William Mackay: Recently there’s been talk of 33-year-old former two time world champion Ricky Hatton making a comeback and possibly facing WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in an effort to pick up an easy title before going back into retirement. It’s still unclear whether Hatton will step foot inside the ring again, but he has lost a massive amount of weight.

One fighter that seems to be mildly interested in facing him is Amir Khan. Khan told the guardian.co.uk “I don’t think Ricky will want to fight us. I try to avoid the Ricky fight but you never know. I’d be a huge British fight and I don’t think we’ve had a British fight like that. It would be bigger than the Dereck [Chisora] and David [Haye] fight but who knows?”

Khan went on to say that he’s concentrating on trying to get a rematch against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in December. Garcia blasted Khan out in 4 rounds last Saturday, and Khan obviously wants to try and avenge that defeat. But Khan might be smart to at least put in a little bit of an effort to get the Hatton fight to get a shot at a much bigger payday than the Garcia fight will give him. Hatton is still a dangerous fight for Khan, because he’s got excellent power, and he’s a pressure fighter with much better inside skills than Khan.

If the fight were to take place in the UK, Hatton would probably be able to get away with mugging Khan on the inside, and that would make it really tough for Khan. In his prime, Hatton had a way of getting inside on his opponents and making them miserable with his body and head shots. He had a weakness when it came to fighting guys with a lot of hand speed, however, and that would give Khan a decent chance of winning. But Khan is coming off of a bad knockout loss and his chin may not be the same after that fight. You put Khan in with Hatton right now and it’s going to be a really dicey situation for the 25-year-old Khan.
