Khan had it coming

Image: Khan had it comingby Chris McCarthy: I’ve always been an Air Khan fan, I like his style, his speed, he’s an extremely exciting fighter to watch. Even his unanimous points wins over lesser opposition had been fruitful.

The one thing that has always got my back up though, was his complete ignorance and arrogant nature towards a few of his opponents before, and during fights.

He never mentioned Garcia once in the build up, deciding to focus purely on a future bout with Floyd Mayweather. I can imagine that instead of watching Garcia’s previous bouts on video, to see what he was up against, he was probably watching footage of Mayweather’s fights against Ricky Hatton and De La Hoya, so see how he would beat him.

He completely overlooked Garcia, only showing an interest in him when Garcia’s dad started abusing him at the pre fight press conferences.

Han thought he’d have Garcia out of there in a couple of rounds, probably fobbed him off as another Dimitriy Salita, who he took out in round 1 a few years back.

He seemed to have no idea about Garcia’s power, he should never have stood toe to toe with him. His chin, or temple, or even top of his head could not deal with the force that Garcia brought to the fight.

I expect Khan to never make that mistake again in what is left of his career.

It would be in Khan’s best interest to fight another local hero in Kell Brook next. Both have points to prove after Kell nearly got ko’d himself last week, and would be a wonderful spectacle for home fans. It would give Kan the perfect opportunity to win back some of his fans and go for glory one final time.

But stay away from Mayweather.
