Image: Khan might boot Roach; doesn't want to share training time with him and his other fightersBy William Mackay: Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KO’s) is dropping some big hints that his famous trainer Freddie Roach may be on the way out after Khan’s defeat. Khan doesn’t want to share Roach with other fighters, and wants someone that’s there for him whenever he needs him. Khan also needs a trainer that specializes more on teaching defense which he clearly needs boatloads of help with. Roach isn’t noted for being a great defensive trainer.

Khan may have wasted the last four years of his career by training with Roach, because his offensive skills were always the best part of his game. It was his defense that needed the work.

Khan told the Dailymail.co.uk “I need a trainer with me 100%. Freddie is a very busy guy and he is busy because he is a great trainer and is one of the best…I don’t really want to be sharing…I just need someone who is going to be with me constantly and working hard with me.”

Khan is going to lay down his ultimatum to Roach to see if he can give him all the time he needs to work on his many flaws. Khan may also bring in a defensive coach to work with him as well. It’s unclear what Roach thinks about that, since you would have to assume that this coach would be working Khan out in Roach’s Wildcard gym.

In the end if Roach doesn’t give Khan the answer that he wants to hear, Khan will likely move on to some other trainer with hopes that he can fix his career, which as of now is spiraling downward. Khan’s situation is pretty dire right now, as another loss and it’ll be very hard to justify Khan being a top of the bill fighter. Two losses is one thing, but four that’s another thing altogether, especially with three of those loses coming consecutively.

Khan needs to take HBO analyst/trainer Emanuel Steward’s advice by taking some time off to rest his head from all the punishment he’s taken, but Khan probably won’t do that. He’s already talking about wanting to face WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia again in a rematch in December. Things can go really bad for Khan if he takes that fight, because Garcia really had his number in his 4th round TKO win.
