Just starting out – Scott Hartley

By Dan Henderson: In this great but often brutal sport we often find ourselves talking about the elite fighters or your contenders or even your prospects but we rarely mention fighters who have just started unless they have won an Olympic medal but today I spoke to a fighter called Scott Hartley who has only had two pro fights and is scheduled to fight on the 23rd of September at the York Hall, Bethnal Green.

So I thought I’d ask a couple of questions.

1.What made you want to become a boxer?

I was in the navy and Matt Philips asked me if I wanted to do some sparring and from there I that’s what I wanted to do. Rugby wasn’t for me anymore.

2. Is it tough juggling a training camp as well as doing a day job?

Yeah it is difficult, it’s all hours of the the day, I get up for morning clients then back for boxing then back for evening clients and then out for my run. Non stop days.

3. How tough is the transition from amateur to professional?

If you willing to listen and learn, I don’t thinks it’s to hard but you just need the right people teaching you.

4. When I’ve spoken to other fighters they have said that in the early days of their career they had a lot of fights and shows cancelled, has that been a problem for you?

No not at all, I have a great manager in Miranda Carter who wants me active and promises me 4 bills a season that she will run.

5. Where do you see yourself in 18 to 24 months?

18 months the Southern area or Scottish title and 24 months the British title, I’d love to win that belt.
