Image: Judah could face Lamont Peterson or Mike Alvarado nextBy Allan Fox: Depending on how well Lamont Peterson’s licensing hearing goes, former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) could end up facing him next or unbeaten Mike Alvarado, according to Dan Rafael. A win for Judah over Alvarado would land Judah a title shot against the winner of the Randall Bailey vs. Devon Alexander bout.

Judah signed with TMT Promotions earlier today, the company owned by 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Judah is hoping that he can make some waves with the new promotional company after leaving Main Events.

Judah told ESPN “The team is phenomenal. It’s gonna be a dream team to have Zab Judah, Floyd Mayweather, [Andre] Dirrell, [Yuriorkis] Gamboa, [Billy] Dib all in one circle.”

It may not be all that. Judah is about to turn 35 in October and it’s a big ask to see him beating the likes of Mike Alvarado. He might be able to get past Lamont Peterson, but even that’s a really tough bout for Judah if Peterson fights the way he did against Amir Khan and Victor Ortiz. Judah is getting old, and he may not be able to do too much more with his career.

Mayweather, 35, is also getting up there in age and he’s likely got maybe two more years before his game deteriorates enough to where he’s not the same fighter. Dib isn’t that great and would be in trouble against the best featherweights in the division, and Andre Dirrell hasn’t fought a quality opponent in two years.

There’s big question marks about whether Dirrell can take a healthy shot without folding. TMT Promotions is going to have to start adding some younger talent because the current fighters they’ve recently added, which included 36-year-old Celestino Caballero, are getting kind of long in the tooth.

It kind of reminds me of the Washington Redskins in the early 70s when they were coached by George Allen. They were called the “Over-the-hill gang” because they had signed a lot of older players that Allen believed in. They were able to make it to one super bowl with that group, but lost to the Miami Dolphins. The team didn’t do much else for years after. The same applies for TMT Promotions. They’re signing a lot of older fighters but they’re going to have to start thinking long term because that current group of older guys aren’t going to be around too much longer, and where will TMT be then?
