Image: Josesito Lopez needs to milk his win over Ortiz and try to get the biggest fight possible before he's put back in his placeBy Dan Ambrose: Light welterweight Josesito Lopez (30-4, 18 KO’s) picked up a miracle win over Victor Ortiz last week when he picked up a win after Ortiz quit after the 9th round due to a broken jaw.

Lopez was well behind in the fight and was only fighting in spurts. He was going to lose the fight and gain little from other than someone to keep an eye on at 140. However, he’s now got the win over Ortiz, and that makes the 27-year-old Lopez a viable opponent for the top dogs at 140 and 147.

But Lopez’s chances of beating the top fighters are pretty slim. In fact, I can’t think of one champion in either the light welterweight or welterweight division that Lopez can beat. He’s just a good fighter that got lucky.

You put him in with Tim Bradley, Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthysse, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao or even Paulie Malignaggi, and Lopez will lose every time. But he’s got to get the biggest fight he can while he can, because once he faces someone else who is tough and not willing to quit, he’s going to have problems. I don’t know that Golden Boy are going to offer him a lot of money for the Ortiz rematch. He’ll get decent money but not a lot, and he’s going to lose to Ortiz in the rematch because Ortiz will likely fight with an injury next time out.

Since Lopez doesn’t have the power, speed or work rate to beat the best fighters, he’s going to lose and sink down into anonymity very quickly. This is why he needs to try and get the best fight he can for the most money, because this is his 15 minutes of fame. He’s get one fight, and that’s it. He’ll lose that fight and will no longer be an interesting player to talk about.
