Image: Hearn says Froch-Bute rematch likely to happen in 2013 in Montreal - Boxing NewsBy Scott Gilfoid: For boxing fans who can’t wait to see the rematch, Matchroom Sports promoter Eddie Hearn is saying that a rematch between his fighter IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) and former IBF champ Lucian Bute (30-1, 24 KO’s) will likely be taking place in 2013 rather than this year. This is hardly news given that Hearn is trying to put together a fight between Froch and Mikkel Kessler before the end of the year.

Hearn told thisisnottingham.co.uk “I have had lengthy discussions with Lucian Bute’s team this week and it’s likely the rematch will take place in 2013 in Montreal.”

Bute has a rematch clause in his contract stating that their rematch will take place in Canada. Froch’s fans don’t want him to fight Bute again for some reason, but that’s the way it is. The clause is there for a reason so that Froch can’t just skip away with his win from last May and not fight Bute again. That fight was pretty much decided when Bute got hurt in the 3rd round by a right hand he didn’t see coming. Bute never recovered from that shot and was eventually taken out in the 5th by Froch. After the fight Bute realized all the mistakes he made against Froch, and is committed to not making those same mistakes a second time in a rematch. What Bute did wrong was that he didn’t fight in his usual hit and run style, and instead stayed on the ropes the entire fight looking for one big shot to poleaxe Froch with. When the knockout didn’t come, Bute found himself in trouble on the ropes, and he ended up getting taken out.

A rematch between Froch and Bute will be much different than the first fight.

Here are the things that will change in the rematch:

* Bute fighting in front of 15,000 loyal Canadians. Froch will be lucky if he has more than a tiny handful of Brits that can afford to fly over to see it.

* Bute will use his hit and run style and Froch does terrible against that style.

* Bute’s jab will be a huge part of the rematch rather than him just looking to KO Froch with every shot.

* Bute won’t fight off the ropes. He learned from his mistake not fight like this anymore.

There you have it. Bute will be ready to out-box Froch in 2013 and snatch back his International Boxing Federation 168 pound title. However, I have strong doubts whether Froch will have the IBF title by that time, because if he fights Mikkel Kessler before the end of the year, Froch will lose that fight and along with it his IBF title.
