McKenna (McJack): Former World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) claims he is not worried that former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Derek Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) will have a 37 pound weight advantage when the two fighters enter the ring on Saturday night at Upton Park. “The Hayemaker” in fact attributes Chisora’s extra weight to fat and insists that if he were in shape he would weigh less than him.

The two fighters were separated by the now familiar steel curtain which is present every time the pair comes anywhere close to each other. The Haye – Chisora fight is a genuine grudge fight fueled by the infamous brawl between the two and their entourages following “Del-Boys” failed effort against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitscko in February.

It took some doing to put the Haye – Chisora fight together after Derek was stripped of his boxing license by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC). David Haye had relinquished his boxing license when he retired from the ring last October upon reaching his 31st birthday. British promoter Frank Warren was forced to turn to the Luxembourg Boxing Federation in order to receive the sanctioning for the fight.

The promotional aspect of the grudge fight was a whole different story. The video of the brawl between Haye and Chisora went viral all over the boxing world within hours. It was immediately obvious that it would be an easy fight to promote if the proper sanctioning could be found. Haye and Chisora pretty much took care of promoting the fight by their continued sniping at each other. The protective steel curtain separating the two fighters at the press conferences only served to heighten the drama. To some extent the steel curtain gave the appearance that Chisora was a crazed animal.

Chisora’s stock in the boxing world rose after his loss to the undefeated Robert Helenius, a fight most boxing observers feel that “Del-Boy” won handily. After Helenius, Chisora gave a losing but credible performance against Vitali Klitscho. Chisora proved to the world that he does have a good chin after Vitali landed numerous right hand hammer shots. It must be noted however that both Helenuis and Klitschko were hampered by injuries in their fights with Chisora.

David Haye will more than likely attempt to box Chisoa in the earlier rounds and use his superior hand speed. It is anticipated that in the later rounds Haye will use his explosive power and look to land his “Hayemaker” shots in an effort to do what the one armed Vitali was unable to do, that is to knock out “Del-Boy”.
