Guerrero: If Floyd wants this belt it’s right here

After the fight, Guerrero called out the full WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an odd manner by challenging him by using his interim WBC title as bait.

Guerrero said “If Floyd wants this belt, it’s right here. I’m the mandatory for Floyd Mayweather.”

Why would Mayweather, the WBC welterweight champ, want to come after Guerrero for his interim title? That was pretty funny and confusing because it’s like Guerrero spoke without really thinking. Which champion in their right mind would care about one of the made up interim straps that the sanctioning bodies have created? Those aren’t the real deals and all those straps do is confuse boxing fans and water down the division by having lesser fighters hold transition titles.

Guerrero didn’t perform all that great even though he got the win. The move from lightweight to welterweight did a number on Guerrero’s power, because he had none to speak of. He was slapping all night with his shots and he couldn’t anything to slow Aydin down. Aydin basically beat himself last night by failing to throw enough punches to win.

Guerrero threw twice as many shots but most of them were picked off on the gloves of Aydin. There wasn’t much quality in all the shots that Guerrero threw, and he would have been better off throwing less and focusing on sitting down on his shots a little more. Guerrero’s power didn’t carry up to the division and he’s going to have to find a way to develop some if he wants to keep his interim WBC strap for long.
