Mike Rowland of Banner promotions said this as quoted by RingTV “It [Golovkin-Proksa] has not been announced yet, but we’re just working it out with HBO on when they’re going to announce it. But that’s definitely going to be the fight.”

The 5’8″ southpaw Proksa is a decent fighter. He’s got good power, but poor defensive skills. Proksa’s main problem is that he tries to fight like quicker American fighters by having his hands down by his sides. It works for fighters with hand speed and quick reflexes but it doesn’t work well for Proksa, who gets nailed a lot to the head. He’s never really fought anyone, which explains why he’s only been beaten once. He fought a fringe contender Kerry Hope last March and took a beating in losing a 12 round decision. Proksa did avenge the loss recently by stopping Hope in the 8th round earlier in the month on July 7th, but Hope isn’t a big deal. If Proksa is losing to guys like Hope that doesn’t bode well for his chances against Golovkin.

Golovkin, 5’10”, is taller than Proksa, faster, the bigger puncher, and a lot more technically sound. Golokin is an ex-Olympian for the 2004 Kazakhstani Olympic Team. He took a silver medal in the middleweight division in that Olympics.

Golovkin doesn’t have much in the way of quality pro experience either with his best wins coming against Kassim Ouma and Lajuan Simon.

This should be an easy win for Golovkin. He’s got one-punch power and against a shorter fighter that leaves his head unprotected the way that Proksa does, it’s going to be too easy for Golovkin to blast this guy out. Hopefully, Proksa changes his fighting style after he loses to Golovkin because he could be a good gate keeper type fighter if he would learn some defense.
