With this victory, Golden Boy will almost surely try and talk WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. into making this his next fight at the end of the year.

There are much better options for Mayweather Jr. if he wants to make a lot more money than he would get against the little known Guerrero. Although Guerrero is well known among hardcore boxing fans, few casual fans have heard of him because he’s fought at the lighter weights and not received a lot of publicity. A fight between Mayweather and Guerrero would be a mismatch because Guerrero has nothing in his game to make it competitive.

Guerrero showed that he’s little more than a high volume arm puncher with little power and who has a tendency to clinch a lot. Last night’s fight with Aydin was painful to watch because of how boring Guerrero was. Golden Boy might want Mayweather to fight him, but this would make for a terrible fight. Mayweather is so accurate with his shots that he’d give Guerrero a real pounding.

It’s not just Mayweather would give Guerrero huge headaches. I think at least 14 other top fighters would likely beat him. I had Aydin rated #15 in the division, not #1 like the WBC for some reason had him ranked. I think the following fighters would defeat Guerrero:

Victor Ortiz
Devon Alexander
Randall Bailey
Andre Berto
Manny Pacquiao
Mike Jones
Kell Brook
Jan Zaveck
Paulie Malignaggi
Thomas Dulorme
Carlos Quintana
Brad Soloman
Vyacheslav Senchenko
Carson Jones

If Golden Boy wants Guerrero to fight Mayweather then he should at least take on several of those top fighters to earn a shot. Guerrero didn’t earn a shot against Mayweather in my book from beating a fighter with an inflated ranking like Aydin. Why the WBC has Aydin ranked #1 is a mystery to me, because he’d be in deep trouble if he fought the guys on my list.

Mayweather doesn’t care about the titles anymore, so even if the World Boxing Council tries to push him to fight Guerrero, it’s probably not going to happen unless Mayweather wants an easy sparring session. Guerrero’s lack of power at this weight will turn it into a sparring match and he’ll likely get embarrassed. But hopefully Mayweather has higher standards than this because this won’t even be a fight. Guerrero has nothing and showed it last night. Guerrero is basically a weak stay busy fighter that likes to hold and push. It’s very boring to watch. He needs to move back down to super featherweight where his lack of power won’t be such an issue for him.
