Fury not interested in the Klitschkos or Haye-Chisora winner, wants Adamek next

Image: Fury not interested in the Klitschkos or Haye-Chisora winner, wants Adamek nextBy Scott Gilfoid: Despite undefeated Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) mentioning that he’ll soon be facing one of the Klitschkos, he’s now saying he won’t bother fighting them until a year from now when he’s good and ready.

I wonder if he feels he’d get spanked too badly if he fought them now, and wants to wait for who knows how long. That’s not really the big news. The interesting part is that not only does Fury not want the Klitschkos, he also doesn’t want to fight the winner of the David Haye vs. Dereck Chisora fight, which takes place this Saturday night.

Fury already said he thinks Haye will win that fight, but why wouldn’t Fury want to fight Haye? That’s a fight that would bring Fury a ton of money, and he may not ever get that kind of cash again if he’s wiped out by one of the fortyish fighters he’s been dining on lately. Look at it this way: If Fury faces David Price and gets knocked cold, Fury will be lucky if he gets one-tenth of the money he could get in a Haye fight in the future. So why not take a fight against Haye? What’s going on with Fury’s thinking process? Is it fear or his just cocky and thinks he’s going to be a star?

Fury told the dailystar.co.uk “They’ve [Chisora and Haye] had their chance. Haye blew it…They are losers and it’s my time to shine…I’m the leading heavyweight in Britain by a mile…I’m not interested in fighting either of them. If Haye wins, he will try to get a Klitschko fight, but it will be me who fights one of them next…I’ve got a year until then.”

This is too funny. So Fury says he’s not interested in fighting either Haye or Chisora, and that he’ll be the next one to fight the Klitschkos, not them. But then Fury says he won’t fight the Klitschkos until a year from now. So what’s up with that? If you’re not going to fight the Klitschkos next, then why does Fury think he’ll be the one to fight them next and not the Haye-Chisora winner. That sounds like some kind of doublespeak. Does he or doesn’t want to fight the Klitschkos next?

It looks like Fury is setting his sights on 35-year-old Tomasz Adamek for his next bout in October. Fat chance that happens. Even if Fury is actually serious about that fight, which I highly doubt, Adamek isn’t going to take that fight. He’s not been showing any inclination to take risks since being stopped by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last year, and I don’t see a fight with contender as being part of his plans. Adamek is looking for another payday title shot, and he probably won’t get anywhere near an actual contender before he gets another title shot next year or the year after.
