Image: Froch possible for Oosthuizen if he defeats Bryant on August 2ndBy Scott Gilfoid: If undefeated South African super middleweight contender Thomas Oosthuizen (19-0, 13 KO’s) can get past the tough and powerful Rowland Bryant (16-1, 11 KO’s) next month on August 2nd, the 24-year-old Oosthuizen, #4 IBF, #8 WBC, #13 WBA, could wind up as the next opponent for IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) in early November.

Froch’s promoter is trying to find an opponent for him for November, and Froch doesn’t want to face a lower level guy. He wants a quality fighter and the options available to him are Oosthuizen and former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik.

The 6’4″ Oosthuizen will probably take care of Bryant without too many problems and quite possibly wind up as Froch’s next opponent unless Froch and/or his promoter Hearn suddenly get cold feet after watching how impressive Oosthuizen looks in beating Bryant. I can see that happening unfortunately. There is such a thing in looking too good, and I’m afraid Froch will dash off in the opposite direction if the southpaw Oosthuizen makes it look too easy in dispatching with Bryant. He might want to keep it in 1st gear if he wants to make sure he gets the Froch fight.

Froch doesn’t have a lot options available if he wants to fight a top 15 contender ranked by the IBF. Most of the guys will be either busy or perhaps not even interested in taking a fight against Froch on short notice. But Oosthuizen will no doubt jump at the chance of getting Froch in the ring so that he can box circles around him and batter him with heavy shots.

Oosthuizen looked really good recently in defeating Marcus Johnson by a 10 round unanimous decision last April. That was an impressive performance from Oosthuizen, as his defense looked really good in shutting down the hard hitting Johnson to where he couldn’t land much. Froch isn’t much bigger than Johnson, and I can see Oosthuizen doing the same thing to Froch unless Hearn steers Froch to safer waters by avoiding Oosthuizen.
