Froch-Kessler II likely to happen in 2013, not this year

Image: Froch-Kessler II likely to happen in 2013, not this yearBy Scott Gilfoid: As I previously mentioned, it looks like the negotiations for the rematch between Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler aren’t going as smoothly as some boxing fans had hoped for. Froch is still trying to drag Kessler over to Nottingham for the fight, but that may not happen because Kessler says he’d like for the fight to take place in Denmark.

Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn is talking about having Froch fight a top 10 fighter for his next bout followed by a rematch against former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute next year in March.

Hearn told Sky Sports News “I would take a top 10 defense this autumn, perhaps at Nottingham Arena, then fight Bute in Montreal and go and do a job on him again, then in the summer a big outdoor fight with Kessler. That Kessler fight will happen, 100%. Whether it’s October or Spring or summer, that fight will happen.”

Well, I agree the Kessler-Froch II fight may happen, but I think it may require for Froch to give up on the idea of the fight taking place in Nottingham or even in the UK for that matter. I don’t think Kessler is going to go along with that plan, and I don’t blame him. The best place for a Kessler-Froch II fight is in a nice neutral venue like Germany or the United States unless Froch is willing for the fight to take place in Denmark. Germany would be an excellent place for the fight to take place because the Germans would eat up the fight, and neither fighter would bellyache about not drawing fans in that venue.

The problem with the Froch-Kessler II fight taking place is that it may occur without a title being on the line and with Froch coming off a loss or two. If Froch faces anyone good in his November fight, I can see him losing. And he’s really going to be in deep trouble in the Bute rematch in March of next year, because Bute has already made it clear that he’s going to box Froch next time around, and we already know that Froch has problems against boxers that move. Bute will go back to his hit and run fighting style, and Froch will be left flailing at air all night long.
