Image: Froch chimes in on Haye-Chisora fightBy William Mackay: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch was disgusted by the recent behavior of Dereck Chisora before and after his fight against Vitali Klitschko last February. Froch wonders what got into Chisora’s head to behave that in that manner.

Speaking with the Evening Standard, Froch said “I don’t know whether Chisora is mentally ill or unstable. But the way he was behaving in the build-up to the fight was totally unreasonable. It was disgraceful. He slapped Vitali at the weigh-in and then spat in Wladimir’s face in the ring.”

Chisora seemed to be trying to hype the Vitali fight, and it just looks like he went a little overboard and misjudged how it would be received by the boxing public. It worked in terms of drawing interest for the fight, but it backfired for him when he had his boxing license withdraw by the British Boxing Board of Control in response to his odd behavior.

Froch had this to say about his good friend Haye “When people retire, they should stay retired…He’s made a lot of money…He is not getting Vitali, but then money changes everything.”

You can’t really blame Haye for taking the Chisora fight, because it’s going to give him a big payday with all the fans that will be showing up to watch the fight at Upton park this Saturday night. There’s an expected crowd of 30,000 that will be showing up to watch the fight. Obviously Haye won’t make the kind of money he got against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko last year in July or the kind of money he’d get against Vitali, but it’s still very good money that Haye will be getting for the fight. The same for Chisora.

If Haye wins an impressive fashion, he’ll greatly improve his chances of getting a fight against Vitali, and who knows? Maybe even Wladimir might change his mind about not wanting to fight him again.
