Joe Calzaghe never lost and is undoubtedly a future hall of famer. Enzo has experience and has trained some good fighter. After hearing that recently defeated Amir khan was deep in thought about his future with trainer, Freddie Roach, Enzo was quick to drop his name into the hat.

Enzo told the Guardian “People say he should quit but I don’t think he should be quitting. I believe with the right trainer – and my CV speaks for itself – he will be unbeatable I would love to train the kid. My next goal is to talk to Khan and his team. We spoke before, about three years ago. I have always believed Amir is a great fighter, despite what people think” Enzo is a very good trainer. But how much of Joe Calzaghe’s success was down to his own talent, or great coaching. It’s an interesting question but still irrelevant. The one good thing i can see in the move is in the style of Joe Calzaghe. He avoided big punches which is something that Khan seems unable to do. But again, how much of that is down to it just being the style of Joe, and how much of it was instilled in him by his Dad?

Whatever Enzo Calzaghe has to offer doesn’t match what Freddie Roach has to offer. But khan has a habit of avoiding responsibility. When he lost to Prescott he instantly left his trainer and joined the Wildcard gym. Indicating that his trainer wasn’t doing a good job. When he lost to Peterson he blamed a man ‘the man in the hat’ and now he is saying he needs more attention from Freddie. But Khan lost to Prescott in 54 seconds. That isn’t lack of training or a poor game plan. That’s lack of punch resistance. His loss to Peterson wasn’t helped by his points reduction and Peterson being on Steroids. Both out of his trainers control and a man wearing a hat certainly didn’t make Khan hold and push, thus lose points. Khan was beating Garcia with relative ease until he got caught. Again, it’s his punch resistance. Khan can pick any trainer he likes but they won’t improve his chin and they can’t control what happens in the opposite camp.

I believe that Amir Khan will become a brilliant champion but only when he stops trying to pass on the blame and instead looks at self improvement.
