David Price won’t get anything out of the Audley Harrison fight

Image: David Price won't get anything out of the Audley Harrison fightBy Scott Gilfoid: I don’t know what it is about fighters nowadays. Instead of wanting to learn their craft by facing the best opposition fight after fight, you get guys taking the easy path against old journeyman that can no longer fight and 2nd and 3rd tier never was, never will be opposition.

It’s sad especially when a fighter is almost 30-years-old like David Price (13-0, 11 KO’s) and still facing weak opposition in 40-year-old Audley Harrison (28-5, 21 KO’s).

I guess this is how you stunt a career. Start soft and keep it in that mode seven or eight years while waiting for that title shot to drop in your lap after the sanctioning bodies give you a nice inflated ranking. Thank god, Price isn’t ranked in the top 10 right now because that would be so, so sad to see. You don’t want to see fighters taking the back door route to a title shot.

You know, I wasn’t even surprised when I learned that Price would be fighting Harrison next on October 13th at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, England. I expected it because in looking at the guys that Price has been up to this point, an over the hill, never was heavyweight like Harrison fits in with the sorry lot that Price has already fought. Harrison is actually perfect for Price, because it’s in keeping with the fodder that he’s faced. I would have probably had a coronary if Price fought someone talented like Deontay Wilder, Seth Mitchell, Chris Arreola or Eddie Chambers. Those guys can fight, and it would have been a major shock to see him pick one of them out.

I don’t know what Price can learn from beating up on Harrison at this point. Harrison has already been beaten recently by David Haye in an embarrassing 3rd round TKO. That fight should have eliminated Harrison from a fight against Price you would think unless he’s just looking for a meaningless scalp to add to his resume without being helped by the process.
