Image: David Price vs. Audley Harrison in mismatch on October 13thBy Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight prospect David Price (13-0, 11 KO’s) will be fighting a mismatch bout against 40-year-old Audley Harrison (28-5, 21 KO’s) on October 13th at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, Merseyside, UK.

I just hope they stack the undercard with a lot of talent because the Price vs. Harrison fight seems more fitting on an undercard near the bottom. I think it makes a good first fight on an un-televised portion of a card but no way a main event. It’s a terrible fight.

Harrison has been exposed so many times not even funny, and I can’t see boxing fans wanting to pay to see Harrison fight after having been badly burned when he fought WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in November 2010 and Harrison could only muster up one punch thrown in three rounds of action. He looked downright petrified. I suppose it will be the same thing when he steps foot in the ring against the 6’8″ Price on October 13th. Someone would have to pay me to see that fight, because it’s a mismatch that will be lucky to go two rounds.

It’s hard to really understand this fight, because Harrison is considered over-the-hill by many boxing fans, and really never did get his career properly started after winning a gold medal in the 2000 Olympics for Britain. This was an Olympics where the competition in the super heavyweight division was especially weak.

The 29-year-old Price really needs to get his backside in gear and stop fighting all these over-matched opponents. The guy is going to spend his best years fighting the likes of Harrison and Sam Sexton, and by the time he steps it up to fight an actual contender, his body will likely start breaking down on him. You tall fighters with little flexibility like Price tend to have a lot of injuries once they hit 30. Price needs to go for a title shot now while some of the other talent like Deontay Wilder and Seth Mitchell are still being groomed. Once those guys are up to speed, Price will likely have missed his chance.
