Instead, the 24-year-old Garcia will be fighting a rematch against the soon to be 36-year-old Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s) on October 20th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. Also on the card will be WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi against an opponent still to be named, and unbeaten middleweight contender Peter Quillin vs. TBA.

Garcia defeated Morales last March by a 12 round unanimous decision. Morales has been coming off of gallbladder surgery when he took the fight, and he appeared stiff from the waist up and flabby around the midsection. Morales didn’t do much in the fight other than jabbing. He was able to break Garcia’s nose with his jabs, but that was the extent of it. He did do a much better job against Garcia compared to Khan, who Garcia recently knocked out in the 4th round on July 14th. But Morales was never able to mount any real offensive threat.

Quillin, 29, is still being groomed by Golden Boy as a future champion. He’s picked up several good wins in the past year, beating Jesse Brinkley, Craig McEwan and Ronald “Winky” Wright. Quillin needs to take on stiffer opposition than this to keep improving. It was more than a little joke to see Quillin fighting 40-year-old Wright in his last bout.

Malignaggi recently defeated WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko by a 9th round TKO last April to win the World Boxing Association 147 pound title. There has been talk of Malignaggi possibly fighting Ricky Hatton, but nothing has come of that. Malignaggi will likely take a soft opponent for this fight, as it’s his first defense and they’ll likely look for him to milk his title a little.
